Inari, Finland

Inari is the centre of Sami culture in Finland. It is home to a number of important Sami institutions, including the college and Parliament, and is the location of the main Sami museum in Finland, Siida. Inari is located on Lapland’s largest lake, Lake Inari.

History of Inari

The village grew up in a spot where the Juutua River flows into Lake Inari. Over the centuries Inari was an important trading centre. The village was officially founded in 1876 but had existed for centuries. Several Stone Age dwellings have been found near where the Siida Museum is today.

Drive: Inari is on the E75 running through Finland into Norway.
